The Pensions Trust was founded in 1946 as the Social Workers Pension Fund. It was established by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and provided a solution for social workers who weren’t eligible for public sector pensions.

Social Housing Pension Scheme (SHPS) set up and grew with the expansion of social housing in the UK.
Name changed to The Pensions Trust for Charities and Voluntary Organisations to reflect its wider membership and growth.

Each scheme has its own separate section in the Trust ensuring its assets and liabilities are ring-fenced.

The Trustee is responsible for all aspects of running an occupational pension scheme such as administration, investment and governance, giving comfort to employers that the scheme is being well managed.
